Novel Board Game Rubric

Students create a board game using the plot of a novel, character, setting, in a group setting. Board game must be no bigger than a desktop. It needs to be colorful and interesting to play. The game must be accurate to the general plot and must be able to plot on plot line just by playing the game. The novel is a grade appropriate level novel of depth and content.

The memoir must include effective use of dialogue, imagery, and a reflection, as well as a compelling lead paragraph and a memorable concluding paragraph.

Students will create a fictional character and write a fictional memoir based on a drawing in "The Mysteries of Harris Burdick" portfolio. The memoir must be written from a first-person point of view and demonstrate the elements of narrative writing/short story creative writing.

Beowulf Website

Develop/create a website based on the novel Beowulf (translated by Burton Raffel). Include such things as images of the characters as you envision them, a summary page, a commentary page, and a Beowulf links page. Remember to document ALL of your sources. This is a partner project.

Beowulf Diary/Grendel Diary

In a diary style entry, tell of Beowulf's battle with Grendel. Include Beowulf's feelings about watching one of his warriors die, how he felt during the fight, a "blow-by-blow" description of the battle, and how he felt about not being able to kill Grendel. Each event is a different entry and at least one page in length. If writing Grendel's diary, switch POV and names.
