Toro-Nagashi - Floating Lanterns
Students create a chochin, Japanese floating lantern decorated with Sumi-E painting techniques (Four Gentlemen) , and inspiration from the Ukiyo-E period and the Toro-Nagashi ceremony. Students learn how to use a brush to make gestural strokes. Students learn how to dilute watercolor and ink to create a variety of values on their lantern. Students will become familia with Kanji and include a Kanji ideogram on their lantern.
