Chuck Close Portrait

Students split into groups and used the grid method to make a large scale portrait of a group member in the style of Chuck Close. Students used contour line, and color schemes to complete the portrait.

Grade levels: 6-8

Contour Self Portraits

Students completed 3 self-portrait drawing exercises: A blind contour portrait, a continuous contour portrait, and a standard contour portrait. Students then applied color and outline to the blind contour, a colored outline to the continuous contour, and a black outline to the standard contour portrait.

DaVinci Proportions Portrait

Students created a face using DaVinci proportions. Students were guided through the process of create facial proportions, and were required to personalize their portrait with details/ add ons.

Watercolor Landscape Rubric

Students used calendar pictures of landscapes to draw and color landscapes of their own. Students were required to identify and show evident foreground, middleground, and background. Students were required to use watercolor techniques (layering, wet on wet, dry brush, salt texture, wash).
