Build a famous building out of everyday objects. You must choose your objects carefully and creatively so they have the look of the architectural feature which you are trying to replicate. Your Look-A-Like must also include appropriate landscaping and be accompanied by a picture of the building you are trying to recreate (citations are a must!) Please refer to examples contained in the various Look-A-Like books by Joy Steiner.

Build A Three Dimensional Home That Demonstrates A Specific Style of Architecture: Students will build a model of a home with an easily recognizable style, such as; Prairie, Ranch, Contemporary, Tudor, Queen Anne, Colonial, or Greek Revival. The student will work to make their model look authentic. They will also need to be able to describe at least 6 of the architectural features that distinguish their model as the style they are displaying.

Create a funny-shaped building in which your design reflects the name of a Billings business, or items sold inside. For example, Red Robin might be shaped like a red robin, the Rehder Hearing Clinic may have a giant ear on the facade, etc. Your funny-shaped building must also include appropriate landscaping based on the Billings business' current location.

Design and build a model of your dream home. Students will need to begin with a floor plan and then use the floor plan as a guide to building their model. It will be important to maintain the scale of the project as the student works. Students are encouraged to add unique ideas and to add scale models of different items they would like included in their home.

5 rubric BPSGT Drawing Portfolio       popup preview  
Students will keep a portfolio of building designs. There will need to be a minimum of 10 detailed building designs, 5 which need to be replications of famous building and 5 which can be their own creation. Detail will be very important.

Complete the inventive process to produce a new, unique invention.
