Compare and contrast two governments

Compare and contrast two of the four types of government (monarchy, oligarchy, tyranny, democracy).

Students will research and write multi-paragraph essay, brochure or create a poster about an African-American historical figure. The work will include a detailed biography, one paragraph that tells about the figure's contribution to society. All writing must be written clearly, with correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Write a "Dear Hero" letter in friendly letter format.

RL 5.2 Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text. Your essay will focus on a specific character's actions from the story. Choose one character that (in your opinion) affected the plot of the story. Think about how this character's actions or reactions, created complications or resolutions. Cite specific examples from the text to strengthen your position.

Re-write a scene from Night of the Spadefoot Toads from the view point of another character, describing what the character is feeling, seeing, hearing and experiencing. RL5.6 Describe how a narrator’s or speaker’s point of view influences how events are described.

The Career Research Project requires a career to be researched based on career interest.

The purpose of this rubric is to allow the younger student to know what the expectations are for writing a comparing/contrasting essay. The student will compare and contrast the book Hatchet to the movie Cry of the Wild. In preparation for this assignment, the student will have had instruction in the writing process, sentence structure, capitalization, end marks, specific vocabulary words, read the book and viewed the movie.
