How does Islamic art differ from art we create in America? In this lesson on global awareness, students will learn about Islamic geometric art and view images from around the world that showcase this art style. Students will learn about the history of Islamic art and geometric design. Students will learn how to draw radial designs and geometric patterns. Then, the students will create their own geometric design painting.

Students will create a design (realistic, abstract, or non-objective) and create a mosaic using the direct method of mosaic application. They may choose to use the masonite panel provided or bring in another object of comparible size to mosaic.

A rubric that properly evaluates the artistic process of building and designing. It measures the various phases and approaches that are necessary in the assessment of this project.

Creat 2 in 1 graphite drawing by using two researched images and composing a final image to transferred using an inch by inch grid on your illustration board. After transferring your drawing using the grid, use as many value levels of graphite to shade your drawing. You will be graded on if you incorporate your own personal artistic style, use composition and design, craftsmanship, and effort.

Students will creatively design 1 of 4 chosen projects all using 2 asian symbols and illustrate 1 nature scene.

Drama I, II, III, IV students will memorize and perform a monologue as a semester I assessment.

Students will prepare and present a short reader's theatre story.
