The Northwest Mounted Police were formed to enforce law and order in the Northwest, but policing was only one of their duties. You are a newspaper writer in the late 1870's. You have been assigned to write about the experiences of some of the members of the newly formed NWMP. The paper you work for wants you to prepare an article about the folowing. They also delivered mail, provided medical aid, acted as justice of the peace, ran elections, and took the cencus. Life was very difficult for the young men who were just starting on the job.

Research Project: Lively Characters of Manitoba
Students are to research and write a one page paper and make a poster. The biography is on a leader who had a role in making Manitoba become a province. These biographies are to have information on the person's life; including birth and death, their occupation, info about their family and their religion and ethnic background. What contributions they made to Manitoba becoming a part of Canada, including whose side they were on and whether or not they were liked by their people. They must also include a picture of their character and other relevant pictures connected to them and what they achieved.
