Authentic looking sugar skulls (calaveras) for Los Dias de Los Muertos were created. 2D designs were pushed to become 3D masks. Creativity in terms of how to transfer ideas into the 3D realm was needed in terms of problem solving in all construction phases. This is an assignment to teach the student the power of shading values, by drawing a still life. Shadows make parts of the artwork appear to go back. Highlights bring other parts toward us. This project required students to re-create a portion of their 3D drawn pumpkin. Doing so created an abstract design of their pumpkin. We used oil pastels.

Pre-drawings of: house, hand, face,chair. Students are then taught perceptional skills based on Betty Edwards Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain activities that give then knowledge in re-drawing the same subject matters using teachable skills. Students are to use these pre-assessments as a comparison tools after drawing instruction provided during this unit

Students will create an advertisement using persuasive details and emotional appeals; complete with logo and word choice. Students also will provide a reflection, stating their emotional appeals and how the product came to be. Choose HOW you want to market it and WHO you want to sell it to. Decide how best you can persuade those buyers to purchase your product.

Objectives: The Student Will: 1). Be able to identify Cubist works (namely the works of Picasso and the Cubist-inspired works of David Hockney). 2). Develop compositional skills. 3). Continue the development of their sense of composition. 4). Learn to appreciate the visual aspects of one's surroundings. 5). Express or create a work showing a time frame. 6). Think of what the final composition will be while shooting. 7). Continue the development of critical analysis in a positive manner. 8). Respect the work done by others.

A project where the students get the chance to experiment with different techniques for shading. Students used shading pencils and color pencils to create different tones. You will turn in two final pieces.

Studio art learned to perceive the world: shadows, edges (contours), spaces (positive and negative), and perceiving how parts of an objecct create the whole object. Pre-assessement drawings were done of a hand, face, house, and chair, that are challenging to draw for different reasons. These items challenge a different perception of the object drawn. At the end of the year students go back and re-draw their pre-assessment and reflect on what they learned.

The objective of this lesson was to experiment with wet on wet techniques (best with layer 1) as well as dry techniques (to add definition in layer2) in creating 3 feathers that demonstrate your ability to experiment with watercolor.
