AP Studio Art
Students are instructed in a variety of traditional and digital art development and illustration techniques, utilizing the Elements of Design. They receive a variety of options in topics and develop a finished work of art for each unit. Students are continually consulted with, assisted and supported in their process, and are assessed for their investment in, and consequent final development of, their individualized work of Art.

Gridded Self-Portrait Painting
Students will take a self-portrait photograph, use the ToonFB app to divide the photo into areas of light, medium and dark value, and print the photo. They will place a grid over the photo, create a grid on larger paper and carefully draw a "map" of the shapes and forms of their portrait. Next, using white and black paint, they will mix light, medium and dark values of paint (with the option of an added color) and paint this "map" of their face in values.

Stipple Value Drawing
Students will select a photograph with strong contrast between light and dark values/shades. They will photoedit the image on iPads to improve the photograph. Students will place thin tracing paper over the photo and stipple (apply tiny dots with marker or pencil) to create tones that will change over the areas of light, medium and dark tones and highlights. Students will photocopy finished stipple drawing (optional: add additional details for extra credit) and complete self-evaluation.
