Measuring Professionalism in Nursing Assistant Program

Clinical Evaluation of student performance of resident care in a Nursing Home. Students are required to perform patient care ADL's, and use critical thinking skills while working in the clinical setting. Work Ethic, Communication, Attendance/Tardiness/Safety/ Indirect Care Measures are evaluated.

Professionalism is a vital part of your training for a career in the healthcare industry. Student will receive a grade for professionalism for each lab session they attend. Professionalism grades will counted as part of your practical grade.

With a partner, role play an interaction between nurse and client using the therapeutic communication skills that you have learned. Video record a 5-10 minute video of the interaction. The patient scenario can be of your choosing. Provide a brief description of the patient situation at the beginning of the video. Following the completion of your video, watch it back and complete a written analysis of the interaction, noting verbal and non verbal messages (were they congruent?), communication skills used (which were effective and which could be added or improved upon?), and the overall effectiveness of the nurse-client interaction.

This rubric is to grade student's research of a human body system, describing it's function, labeling all parts with at least 2 illnesses associated with the system. Students will describe the changes of this body system in a person's life, paying close attention to the elderly. Helping a nursing assistant to give quality care. Each student will give an oral presentation using an original 3-D visual aid. Must include 3 resources, one of which must be non-internet related.

Students will understand the system and the diseases associated with that system and how the C.N.A. responsibilities the care to be done for each disease. This is a teaching, oral presentation using an original visual aid.

Each student group will research a disease, illness, or condition of the instructor's choosing and relay what was learned to the class. Information on the disease should include the physiology and etiology of the condition, as well as discussion of diagnostics, nursing assessments (subjective & objective), medical management, nursing diagnosis and planning and nursing interventions & special consideration. Rationales for nursing interventions should be explained and discussed. Presentations can be in any format that the student group desires. A written summary of the presentation and research is to be handed in, and bibliography/references are to be included for assessment.

Students will describe the changes of this body system throughout a person's life, paying close attention to the changes in the elderly and the information a nursing assistant would need to know to give quality care. Each student will give an oral presentation using an original visual aid. A written report is to be included with at least 3 resources, one of which must be non-internet related.

Anatomy students will create a 3-D representation of a selected part of the human anatomy to include: bone, muscle, vein, nerves and all skin layers. (viscera)

Students will learn about the stages of grief, identify the stage they are in and engage in grieving activities.

Each student is required to choose a disease or disorder. The students will follow the guidelines regarding the information required. The presentations will require a power point, creativity, and a handout that they would present to a patient.
