• COMPARE AND CONTRAST(25 points) : Research both McCarthyism and another historical event that draws on the themes found within The Crucible: the phenomenon of false accusations and convictions OR the influence one person can have over a group of people. Make a poster or write an essay depicting McCarthyism, your own historical event, AND The Crucible and explaining the similarities and differences between all three.

• MOVIE POSTER AND CAST OF CHARACTERS (10 points): Create a movie poster that you feel represents the play. Using modern day actors (YOU CANNOT USE THE ACTORS THAT ARE ALREADY IN THE CRUCIBLE MOVIE), you will come up with a cast of characters. You will write a one page paper that explains why you chose the actors to play the parts and why they would be a good fit for the part.

• COLLAGE (10 points): Create a collage (a poster of various different objects, pictures, etc…) which depicts what you think to be the most important characters, objects, or events of the play. Include captions under your pictures.

• SOUNDTRACK/CD COVER (15 points): Create a soundtrack for the play. Pick at least 10-15 pieces of music that fit this play (or even a specific character of the play). Be sure to be able to explain WHY that particular song fits whichever part of the play, or character you chose (that is, you need to have evidence from the play). Lyrics must be printed out and school appropriate. Create an artistic cover for the CD that represents the play. Do no use already created artwork.

• LETTER(15 points): Write a letter from Elizabeth Proctor to her husband, John, expressing her feelings and beliefs concerning his impending execution. Use what she has said to him in Act IV, as well as what you infer from her final words, to determine the contents of the letter. Study Elizabeth’s lines in the play, and try to copy her style and manner of speech in your letter. Imagine she is writing this letter to him in order to make peace with herself. At least one page in length.

• CAUSE AND EFFECT MOBILE(15 points): A mobile is something that hangs from the ceiling. You can use a coat hanger or come up with a frame for your ideas. Your mobile should address these questions: How does cause and effect play out in The Crucible? How can one person’s actions change a chain of events? Be sure to add at least two illustrations (pictures of characters or arrows that show the cause and effect).

• ILLUSTRATED TIMELINE(15 points): You will create a timeline of at least 12 events. With that timeline you will illustrate at least six of the events. Be sure the events are in order.

• FRONT PAGE OF THE SALEM TIMES(20 points): You will be the editor of The Salem Times Newspaper. Write at least three news articles about what is happening in Salem. Include pictures, catchy headlines, and use facts from the play. This may be created by hand or computer, but must be legible, neatly completed, and look like a newspaper.

• DIORAMA(30 points) : Pick a scene from the play and create a diorama. A diorama is a miniature scene in a box. With your created diorama, you will write a one-page explanation of the scene and characters in the scene and why you believe this was an important scene in the play.
