Character Study and Analysis (Unit 2)
Write a short analysis of one character and interpret how the character fits into the theme of the novel. Students will have a visual interpretation, a character study and personality traits graphic organizer, and a summary of at least one theme from the book. Use evidence throughout this project to support the overall character study. The project is 4 separate pages produced using Prezi, Presentation, Emaze, or any presentation application approved by the teacher.

Personal Narrative
Write a Personal Narrative Essay about an important, life-changing event from your life. Describe your memorable event in chronological order. Include reactions in your personal narrative such as dialogue, specific details and emotions. Include a reflection in your essay on what you learned from this experience (conclusion). Your personal narrative should be a five paragraph essay with an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

Poetry Critic's Blog Rubric
Your task is to write a poetry critic's blog entry that analyzes the figurative language, structure, and theme of a poem. Through your analysis you should be able to explain the meaning and impact of the poem. You will also be assessed on how well you respond to the analysis of other critics.

Poetry Portfolio Rubric
Poetry Portfolio: This project is the final assessment in the unit of Poetry. This is a task wherein students compile original and selected poems from various poets showcasing one main theme as well as the use of imagery, sound effects, poetry structure and rhyming all presented in one portfolio. The students also have written summaries that are presented within the portfolio to demonstrate the ability to analyze poetry on various levels.

Response to Literature

MONTHLY SUNSHINE STATE BOOK REPORT PROJECT/FREE CHOICE
• Your book report should be creative and neat. • The final project TYPE will be your choice, with a different format to be used each month. Each project MUST INCLUDE the following items in some form: • A “cover page” with your name, the title of the book, the author’s name, and a reader’s review (YOURS!) of the book, rating it from 1 (really bad) to 10 (LOVED it!). • Illustrations representing the book, either drawn or copied and printed, are included. • Some format representing the main characters, minor characters, main plot line, major conflict and resolution, and settings. • Copy of AR Test on the book. • Proper mechanics--NO spelling or grammatical errors; grade-level effort is shown in writing and illustrations. • Project is chosen from acceptable types and is NOT a duplicate of yours OR another student’s in type or content.

News Broadcast/Front Page News Project
Create a News Broadcast video, script, or a Front Page with multiple stories to explain the key ideas from your informational text anchor book. Choose 3 key ideas from the book to report on. You must use at least 3 quotes from the book. Goal: Summarizing and compiling information from the text (book) in a creative way that also uses details to support the central idea of the text.

Informative/Explanatory Essay-Graphic Novel Essay
Informational writing includes non-fiction writing that describes, explains, informs, or summarizes ideas and content. The writing supports a statement based on research, observation, and/or experience. This writing piece is based on reading graphic novels. Students are informing the reader about graphic novels, noting the qualities or traits of a graphic novels.

Vocabulary Assessment Form
