You will undergo a job interview for a position in your field. You will be rated on your preparation, presentation, responses, and questions asked to the interviewer. Ensure you have portfolio pieces ready, that you are dressed appropriately, and that you properly ask & answer questions.

For this Project, you will be web-searched by an employer researching how appropriate you are for the job. Your goal is to ensure that online you appear to be a reliable, professional, skilled worthy of hire in the arts & design world. This means having a complete LinkedIn profile, samples of your work visible, and a mature social media presence. You are encouraged to provide your instructor with a profile of your intended image so they know what image you want to portray.

Construct TWO DIFFERENT CVs & cover letters for 2 real job postings in your field. CVs should reflect your real experience, and be unique. Essential elements: Summary, Qualifications, Experience, Education, References (though details not required). Optional elements: Collections/Exhibitions, Past Clients, Grants/Awards, Organizations, etc. Cover Letters should contain keywords from job posting. Formatting should be consistent, attractive, and reflect your industry. Submit the job postings.

Students choose a designer/artist and review their work. Review should compare 2 or more pieces, series, or themes (though not necessarily all from the same designer/artist). The review must include a visual analysis, interpretation, evaluation, and be based in part on research. Minimum 600 words, 1.5 spacing, 12 point font. Works cited page required, minimum 3 sources of 2 types.

Write a semiotic analysis of an artifact: a sign, advertisement, logo, brand, or other popular symbol of your choice. Describe: history of the artifact; target audience; media utilization; marketing & design techniques, language use, emotional appeal, etc. Examine audience reaction to message(s). Evaluate the artifact, give your suggestions for improvement. Use min 6 sources of at least 3 types. Must conform to MLA or Chicago style. Minimum 1200 words, 1.5 spacing, 12 point font.

Construct an Exhibition Proposal based upon real or imaginary collections/experience. Essential elements: Personal Details, Artist's Bio, Artist's Statement, Opening Letter, Description of Works. Each field should be max. 200 words.

Construct a Cover Letter based upon a real or imaginary job you are applying for. It should address your suitability for the position, outline your relevant experience/education, and be professional. Formatting should be consistent, attractive, and reflect your industry.

Essential elements: Personal Details, Education, Exhibitions/Collections, mentions References (though not necessarily listing details). Optional elements: Relevant Work Experience, Bibliography, Awards/Grants, Publications, Teaching, Curatorial Projects, Residencies, etc.

Art & Design students should be able to successfully critique their own artwork and that of others using terminology that is understandable and relevant to students in the field of art, photography, and design. Choose a creative work (your own or another's). Write a critique using the 4 elements discussed in class. These elements don't necessarily need to be in separate headings, but must be present. Length: at least 300 words.

Prepare and present an 8-10 minute group presentation that is creative, topical, & related to your studies; eg. product/idea pitch, info. seminar, review, etc. Should be creative, interesting, & professional. Visuals encouraged but optional. Organization & content graded as a group; language & delivery graded individually. Students may choose not to speak, but must provide more input in other ways such as research or planning. Ensure this is mentioned in your peer & self assessments.

Write a professional email to a client, potential client, or gallery manager. When engaging in online conversations and networking that is related to school or work, it is important that messages reflect a high level of critical thinking and be written in formal language using correct spelling & grammar.

Students will create a bibliography with at least 5 sources for the Semiotic Analysis Project (#4).

Write a design brief for a corporate branding contract. All major heading topics must be addressed; format must be consistent; presentation professional; free of spelling, grammar, and typographical errors.

Write a short piece (250-500 words) in a consistent language style, using clear and structurally accurate sentences with correct punctuation, capitalization, spelling. Ensure at least 10 items are used from the Common English Errors handout.

Below is a chart that shows you exactly how your class participation grade will be evaluated. All students are expected to participate in class! Students should understand that their participation mark begins at 0 and then is built up through active participation. Students DO NOT automatically recieve a perfect participation mark at the beginning of the term and then "lose points" through non-participation.
