A generic rubric for scoring student created word problems.

After a Non-Fiction read aloud, and modeling and demonstration, the student will be able to say and then write a complete sentence about something learned in the text. Teaching will focus on verbalizing a complete thought, using the correct initial consonant for each word, trying to form each letter correctly, starting the sentence with a capital letter, and ending the sentence with a period. Students are expected to be able to read their sentence aloud while tracking their words.

Students will choose a community worker and decide in which community they would belong. They will then illustrate their community worker in their community using labels. The students will write a few sentences explaining who their community worker is, which community they belong to, what kinds of tools they use, whether they provide goods or services and how they contribute to the community. Each student’s paper will they be compiled in to a communities book for our classroom library.

While working independentally, students will be able to create book families using their knowledge of word families. Students will include two words, cooresponding pictures, and the word family they are displaying.

After a lesson on different types of maps and their uses, students Created a Map: 1. To develop simple symbols to identify features & locations on a map 2. To draw a self-drawn map of an area using simple mapping conventions or Google Drawings 3. To show knowledge of parts of a map including map key, and symbols

Student's will analyze the word problem in order to solve and show in sequence through illustrations, numbers and words.

Common Core. 1.MD.10 complete with colors graph and a bar graph (with single-unit scale) to represent a data set with up to five categories. Illinois State Goal: 10.A.1a Organize and display data using pictures, tallies, tables, charts, or bar graphs.
