Sugar Skull (Calaveras)oil Pastels
After about EL Dia de los Muertos, the students planned a design for a sugar skull. They planned the shapes with their corresponding colors. The design was then transferred on to black construction paper and then colored with oil pastels.

Line Drawing Exercise.
Draw in contour at least two hands in an expressive position. Cross contour lines then should be added to express the form of the hands. Give little or no attention to value. Pay attention to the accuracy of your drawing with correct proportions. Value Composition in Pencil
Value Composition in Pencil. The composition demonstrates the students ability to create the Illusion of volume or form using the element of Art: Value and the principle of composition. Composition uses at least 3 objects that overlap; value is added to the contour drawing using one or more of the methods taught in class (tonal, crosshatch, linear, stippling, unique). Composition shows at least 3-4 values of shading and includes the 5 Principles of Shading: highlight, shade, shadow, reflected light and backshading.

Students will learn about the life and works of Vincent van Gogh. They will identify his style and line drawing of their own interpretation of Starry Night mostly cool colors in sharpie and watercolor paint.

Health Poster rubric
The students will work individually to put together a poster for display. The poster will contain relevant information directly related to the theme of Health and welness. The poster must include the 9 aspects of health (Health, wellness, physical, intellectual, emotional, interpersonal, spiritual and environmental). Students will create a poster of their interpretation of health and wellness. The poster will be designed on poster board using magazine cut outs and drawings.

Menu Project
Create a menu. You must give your restaurant a name and create the menu. The menu should include at least 5 complete choices for each of the sections of the menu: appetizer, set menu,side menu, desserts and drinks. Student creates an original and wellcrafted earthenware vessel using coil method.

Grid Drawing
Using a digital photo, grid the photo in a 1 inch grid. Then create a 1 inch grid on your drawing paper to transfer your drawing to (square by square). You will be graded on if you incorporate at least 7 values in your composition and design, craftsmanship, and effort.

The student will create a relief printmaking block using carved linoleum. The student will print an edition of 3 signed, numbered, and dated prints.

Stipple Value Drawing
Students will select a photograph with strong contrast between light and dark values/shades. They will photoedit the image on iPads to improve the photograph. Students will place thin tracing paper over the photo and stipple (apply tiny dots with marker or pencil) to create tones that will change over the areas of light, medium and dark tones and highlights. Students will photocopy finished stipple drawing (optional: add additional details for extra credit) and complete self-evaluation.
