Musical Painting (Art I)

Students will create a composition using medium(s) of their choice to depict a moment of their favorite song. This can be more abstracted to represent the emotion of the song, or realistic to represent the lyrics. This project will focus on use of creativity, symbolism, and expression. This project should take at least two weeks, include school appropriate subject matter, and include a printout of the lyrics depicted.

Multi-Media Mashup (Art II)

Students will create a composition using multiple mediums to render the place they would like to travel to. Students should research the place they would like to visit, and depict their findings in this piece. This picture should a include a landscape and focus on the use of line, color, and shading with multiple mediums. This project should take at least two weeks to complete.

Students will create a composition decided by chance. They will draw one design, principle, and theme of art out of a hat. Students will use these to make a piece that represents a dream or childhood event. This project should take at least two weeks.

Students will create a composition of the animal they feel best represents themselves. This may be a drawing, painting, sculpture, etc. This will include a 3-5 sentence reflection of how they made that animal represent themselves. Value, shape, texture, and form should be explored in this project, which should take at least to weeks to complete.

Students will create a social commentary collage that represents their feelings about society today. Multiple materials should be used, and the use of design principles should be evident. Craftsmanship will be a key focus in this project, and this piece should take at least two weeks to create.

Students will create a composition of their favorite historic icon. This may be a political activist, musician, war hero, etc. The person depicted should somehow be symbolically represented in the composition. This composition should use at least two mediums and take at least two weeks.
