Into Thin Air: Characterization Journal
Write at least five journal entries from the perspective of one character in the book. Evenly space the entries throughout the book. Ideas from which to write are: to react to events, explain decisions, reflect on others' decisions and personalities. Reflection upon character elements and analysis of character should be evident in the writing.

Into Thin Air: Character Analysis Essay
Write an analytical expository essay informing your classmates about the character from whose perspective you wrote the journal. Explain the character's elements, which you have interpreted accurately from the text. Each element must be supported with evidence. A connection must be drawn between character elements and plot.

Character Analysis
Write a short analysis of this character using one of the elements outlined above. In one paragraph, explain the character’s relationship, motivation, influence, or conflict. Use evidence to support the explanation. In an additional paragraph, extend this element of the character and connect it to the plot. You may explain something that has happened with the character using your above analysis. You may predict something that will happen to the character using your above analysis.
