This assignment will allow you to start putting to use the basic photographic concepts that we have been exploring to create a photojournalistic collection of photos that tells a story about a local point of interest (POI). Some thought about the POI should be given since you will be telling a story about the POI in photos. Choose a POI in the area that you are familiar with: a historical site, a small town downtown, a park of historic or local significance. You need to choose carefully since you will need a complex enough location to make an interesting presentation. Create 12-20 photos that tell a story about your chosen Point of Interest. The photos should use elements of design and photography that we have been discussing in class.

For this assignment, choose a mode that relates to a subject you enjoy shooting, and then photograph it using the related scene mode. It's easy to leave the camera "in the green" and never explore the rest of the exposure-mode dial, and so hopefully this exercise will get you comfortable with other modes. Pick a subject that pleases and interests you. Depending on the setting chose the "correct mode" for that photo opportunity. Then use at least 3 more modes and observe the affect of using your camera off mode. Submit 4-8 photos in your Gallery account with a sub-gallery name Photo 3. Be prepared to talk about your images with your classmates.

Create 4-8 photographs that demonstrate the difference the Rule of Thirds can make in your photographic composition. You should photograph your subject centered (basically a "happy snap") and then recompose the subject by placing the critical focal point on the third. Be prepared to discuss your photos and compositional decisions during class.

360 Degrees This assignment is a great beginning exercise meant to loosen up your shooting techniques. Choose an object at least as large as a car You should be able to walk around the entire object. Now shoot a minimum of 20 images of this object. Get down low, hold your camera up high, move in close, back up, change lenses (if applicable), and play with investigating this object in as many different ways possible, including shooting it at different times of the day. The purpose of this assignment is to get you moving in directions you would not normally seek out. Work on making each image different and unique. Push yourself to really look for different views.
