Cuts
Poor
This is for students who only take out a few of the unwanted words from the speech.
Fair
Students took out most of the unwanted words and sounds from the recording.
Good
A good job is when a student cut out all of the “ah’s” and “hmm’s.”
Excellent
All the cuts of “ah’s” and “hmm’s” are cut out and cross fades are added to eliminate pops that occur without fades.
Score
Back ground sounds
Poor
Student does not add all sounds, only a few.
Fair
Added all the sounds, however, some sounds seems out of place or the sound or music added just does not fit.
Good
Added all the sounds and music at the right time and place. Everything
Excellent
Adding sounds is important but the sounds has to be added at the right time and place. Some sounds such as explosions can just be put in the right spot; however, other sounds such as music must have a build in or fade in and out. I am also looking for those who adds extra background music or noise with creativity.
Score
Effects
Poor
Student leaves out a large number of effects, and the recording is bland.
Fair
Added some effects but not all.
Good
Added all the sounds at the right time time.
Excellent
To get a more natural sound, students should add a slight bit of reverb and delay to the over all track of the vocals. Making the “s” stutter and changing the tone of the vocals is a skill that will differentiate a novice from an expert. This level is reserved for students who are exceptional with their creative prowess.
Score
Mixdown
Poor
Sound is muddy (hard to distinguish what sounds are what) because the student did not take the time to fix the volume levels.
Fair
Students fixed most of the problems with the levels being uneven however, some sounds are still higher than the main vocal track. Or everything is leveled but no reverb or delay.
Good
To reach this level the vocals and background music/sound go together seamlessly. Also, the levels (volume) of all the tracks should compliment each other.
Excellent
The mix down should be fully completed where all the levels are in complete harmony with each other. The addition of an equalizer and a compressor will help to control the vocals from peaking and to bring up the lower sections. Also students should have reverb and delays.
