- Bent knees

The student is able to work out problems in a positive way.
The student works well with their partner by saying encouraging or positive phrases or words while working together.

The student works well with both their partner and their opponent. They are not only positive, but also works to help their partner do better or works out how the pair can do better during the game.
Strategies & Movement

- The student attempts different shots while playing the game
- The student tries to move their opponent around while playing
- The student varies how they serve to try and keep their opponent off balance during the entire game.
- Moves feet when making a shot
- Moves to the middle of the court, when waiting for the return
- Racket is up while waiting for next shot

Learning

Confines focus on sending and receiving the shuttlecock. Movements are inconsistent with no basic strategic play
Developing

Uses some skills and strategies appropriately, but shows little evidence of variation in shot placement to move their opponent around.
Developed

Uses variation in shot selection and placement, but is hesitant or indecisive. May be inconsistent returning to appropriate court position.
Mastering

Usually, the student uses different offensive and defensive strategies and tries to get back to the appropriate court position after a shot.
Mastered

Consistently applies effective offensive/defensive strategy without hesitation.
Receiving a serve

- The student has the proper grip (hand shake)
- Ready position
- Racket and hands are up in the air, racket is around the upper part of their body or is slightly above the head

Learning

The student does not perform any of the cues at all or almost none of the time.
Developing

The student performs the grip and/or performs some of the other cues a few times, but not everything at the same time.
Developed

The student performs the proper grip every time, but does not consistently perform all of the other cues.

The student performs all of the cues consistently.

Underhand serve

- Up and back stance (left foot forward right foot back),
- Hold the shuttlecock at waist level. Make an "O" to hold birdie using index finger and thumb
- Point should towards the target
- Contact made in front and on side of body below the waist, snap wrist on contact, High and deep

The student does not perform any of the cues at all or almost none of the time.

The student performs some of the cues, but needs to be reminded about some of the cues sometimes.
